You don’t want to get sick on your vacation. It’s super exciting to travel and is full of surprises, however, there are a lot of precautions that should be taken as far as your health is concerned. It might take some preparation, but the extra effort is worth it. Here are some simple things you can do to make sure you’re keeping yourself fit and healthy while traveling during the holidays: 

Keep yourself hydrated

I am sure you’ve heard this a million times, but staying hydrated is very important in life in general and especially while you are traveling. Too much sun and lack of water can lead to sunstroke or dehydration, which you definitely don’t want on your vacation. Even the airplane cabins and long flights are extremely dehydrating so always make sure you drink a lot of water on flights. Potassium-rich food items and drinks like coconut water are also great options to help keep you hydrated, and can often be found in airport convenience stores.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is very important to our health and well-being. Studies have revealed that people who don't get enough quality sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus, such as the common cold virus. Lack of sleep also slows the recovery process if you do get sick. So, getting proper sleep is very essential before and during your travel period. To make sure you get good sleep on the plane/drives, consider packing a travel pillow and earplugs or noise-canceling headphones.

Sanitize surfaces and don’t forget to wash your hands regularly

When you’re traveling you come in contact with a lot of things which you can’t imagine how many people must have touched before and you probably have enough germs on your hands while you think your hands are clean. You use handrails, touch counters and open doors are all things we do without much thought.

Be Active and Exercise

This is something people really struggle with while they are traveling. You walk
around exploring, get in the water and swim dive, etc, but you have no routine. It’s
very easy to put on weight when you are traveling, but there are so many things
you can do, like go for a run each morning, or look up local exercise classes, or even exercise in your hotel room. You can always look at videos on youtube and do a small routine. So if you have the will, there is no excuse to not keep fit on your vacation.

Eat healthily

It’s super difficult to not eat whatever you want when you’re traveling because you are in the whole ‘It doesn’t matter, I’m on a holiday mood’, and well you want to possibly try everything. You never know what may not suit you in another country and make you sick. Therefore, you should always be cautious and see the contents of the food you purchase, maybe even speak to the chef when you want to order a dish because it sounds fancy but you’re not sure if it might suit your body. Try and have your fruit and important vegetables every day. Enjoy yourself but at the same time try having a balanced diet.
